This is a highly detailed picture of Tiki. I managed to get her to stay still long enough to get the shot lined up and in focus. Im rather proud of this capture. It shows a lot of the detail of the feathers and the skin around her eyes, not to mention that beautiful beak of hers.
-----
This is my co-worker Tequila ( Tiki for short ) from Country Critters. Tiki is a Collared Aracari ( Pteroglossus torquatus ), which is a member of the toucan family.
She is an amazing bird, and quite a character. Tiki was captive born and raised. She loves sparklies. We greet each other every morning when I come to work with her trilling social call when I walk up to her, followed by her nibbling gently at my marcasite ring. Unlike a parrots beak, Tikis beak is actually rather fragile, the structural design being more like honeycomb inside.
Some other aracari species have even crazier colors, like the Curl-crested Aracari. Most members of the toucan familyare brightly colored in their feathers and beaks.
